I created this logo to merge the simplicity of the Creative Commons brand with the rich meaning of the flag of South Korea, who are so generously hosting the Summit. The powerful meaning of the flag's imagery that brings together such extremes as heaven/earth, fire/water, and Yin/Yang coincides nicely with Creative Commons unifying the world through free culture and open knowledge. I chose to eliminate color from the design for two reasons. First, I thought that by removing the color of the flag, I would distance my design from the actual flag enough that I would avoid disrespecting the symbol because of my alterations. Secondly, the monochromatic design follows the Creative Commons branding scheme. Thank you for considering my design.
